Ollie is an associate artist with Folk Arts Oxford, and works on their Inclusive Folk projects, which aim to make folk music more accessible to those with learning difficulties. FAO take professional folk musicians into SEND schools in the Oxford area to run music workshops with the children. Ollie was heavily involved in the pilot Inclusive Folk project in 2017, and the recent Hands Up For Singing project, which brought together children from mainstream and SEN schools for a performance at Folk Weekend Oxford 2018. He is a member of Iris, a band formed by FAO, who provide high quality accessible music in a concert setting for those with learning difficulties, by using Makaton signing in all their performances.
Ollie is also a well known melodeon workshop leader and teacher. His engaging and challenging workshops are always popular at festivals and events, including Melodeons at Witney, Melodeons & More, and the Saturday Morning Folk Music workshops at Cecil Sharp House in London. Workshop themes include:
Exploring the bass end
Music theory for the melodeon
Right hand harmony
Ollie is available for D/G melodeon tuition in and around London, specialising in all abilities in a loosely English style. Trained 'classically' from an early age, he has a good understanding of music theory, and can teach with or without sheet music. Please get in contact for more details.
